Corrections:  Dan Jones noted that the parish is $7,000 short of 3.6M.  We have 24 acres.

SPECIAL REPORTS

Marisela Linan, Director of Religious Education

Marisela handed out her report and reviewed its contents.  See attached.  She noted that sometimes the families can not pay the entire charges.  She asks them what they can pay. Members noted that families with no money should not be asked to pay.  RCIA candidates should not pay until they become Catholics.  What she needs most are volunteers!  Put an announcement in the bulletin next years asking for volunteers.

Fr Jerry?

Mari DeLeon, Director of Youth Ministry

She presented information concerning the youth of St. Paul and reviewed its contents.  See attached.  She said that there is no separate Hispanic youth group.  Also there is currently no youth mass at St Paul; maybe in the future.  Members of the council noted that there would be scheduling problems on the weekends.  Maybe a youth mass another day of the week.

Father Jerry noted that he has difficulty separating the youth from the rest of the parish.  We are to pray together.

What she needs most is SPACE!

Bill Lunstrum and Don Reeping for the Vocations Committee

These gentlemen and Maureen Peterson co-chair this event.  A video concerning the parish mission was shown.  Bill Lunstrum handed out a Parish Mission To-Do List (see attached) and a booklet that explains how to prepare for a parish mission.    Maureen Peterson noted that we of St Paul’s parish needs to drop everything (other meetings, etc)  to encourage participation.  She asked members to offer names of fallen-away Catholics.  We will encourage them to attend the mission.  The Mission Committee will work with the school regarding participation in the mission which is Feb 9-14.

There will be a mission meeting on 12/4/07 at 6:30 pm in he rectory  Financing will be discussed at that time.

Building on Faith

We have $3,620,000 in pledges and gifts.  There is approximately $2.6M in the bank.  There has been a 85% redemption rate.

Sue  Hamilton noted that parish members do not know that there is a Stewardship Committee and that it is active.  We need to involve the membership of the parish.

It was suggested that the pictures of the new  church and complex be posted again in the back of the church.  It was further suggested that graphs of the status of the building on faith be put into the bulletin (e.g. pie charts) on a continual basis.

Next summer is the 5th year of the drive.  Maybe new energy needs to be put in the process.

Maureen Peterson noted that the group pictures were great taken on time with a good turn-out.  Ann Jones did a great job scheduling the groups.  Three hundred to 400 families have had their pictures taken.  Matt Lara stated that he has some photos of activities.  He will burn a CD and deliver it to Maureen P.

Father announced that the net income from the trip is $9, 157.47.  Income distribution was in the bulletin.

Work on Church’s Bathrooms

Don Behrendt noted that he will contact 2 electricians to get estimates on installing hot water in the bathrooms.  One estimate from Kris Keyes stated that it would cost $140 - $170 per bathroom. This would be financed through a collection.

After discussion it was agreed by the members of the council that the bathrooms in the church would be marked as unisex (to be used equally by males and females).  This will be done tomorrow.

Mass Count

Father distributed the attached mass count report.  The current St Paul’s Church seats 600 persons at one time.  There was discussion about the number of Spanish and English masses needed on the weekends.  The current demand for the priests’ time is extensive with the masses and conducting marriages, funerals, etc.

Other items

The insurance company will not insure vans that hold 12-15 passengers.  Caravans are insurable.

It will cost $1,100 a year for liability for a driver.  Bishop Kelley will not lease a bus.

Could we share a bus with the Caldwell parish?

It may be more cost effective to charter a bus than to own one.  This topic is open for further discussion.
