Meetings
Knight of the Month
Family of the Month

Few popes in the 2,000-year history of the Catholic Church have had so momentous an impact on the Church and the world at large as the man we can now properly call John Paul the Great. The 1.7 million members of the Knights of Columbus, who have had the privilege of supporting him in so many ways over the past 27 years, mourn his passing even as we recall the contribution of this extraordinary and holy man.

John Paul, the successor of Peter as head of the universal church, made it into a truly global church, traveling to nearly every nation on earth, and reaching out to the world's five billion people in ways that were unprecedented. We are proud to have been at his side, in his travels around the world and as the organization that made possible his use of modern communications technology to reach literally billions of people.

John Paul's courage -- as a young man suffering under Nazi occupation, as priest and bishop standing up to communist tyranny, as victim of an assassination attempt, and finally as one who taught us the importance of enduring pain and suffering in union with Christ's suffering -- is an inspiration to all of us.

His tremendous effort to reach out to people of every religious faith embraced one of the most important teachings of Vatican II and made it live. And his teachings on the dignity of the human person and on the sanctity of human life are immeasurable contributions to the modern world, as we contemplate the ways in which we must leave the carnage and destruction of the 20th century behind us forever. He was truly the Pope of Peace, whose commitment to the cause of peace is unmatched in our time.

We will miss him greatly. But the Catholic Church -- and the world -- will benefit from his legacy for generations to come.

Knights of Columbus
Nampa Council 2014

Dear Brother Knights;

Where has the year gone? This past year has seen the Knights of Council 2014 welcome many new members and unfortunately had to say “rest in peace” to some very active members. Grand Knight, Bruce Wilson, and myself are looking forward to finding a way of making the council more active. This past year the Knights, with the help of our Squires, gave backpacks to school kids in need and hosted a Safe Halloween Party for the community of Nampa, as well as putting on many of our famous breakfasts.

We are excited that we have planed for some changes for next year. The scholarship committee is making changes to the current program to help Brother Knights and many other families in the St. Paul’s community, more information to come in the meetings.

Another change is to the meeting schedule. Currently we have been holding two business meetings a month. For next year we are going to begin a three-month “rotation” of meetings. The first meeting of every month, which is on the first Monday of each month, will be a regular business meeting. The second meeting of each month, which is the third Monday of each month, will rotate as follows. The first month of the three month rotate, will be an officers meeting, were all Brother Knights are welcome, to hear what the officers and committee chairman have planned for the coming months.

The second month will be a “First Degree Meeting.” This will help recruit new members by being able to tell prospective members when they can join. I have found it very hard to talk to an interested person and say, “well when we have a first degree, I will let you know.” The problem is that either you forget to tell them or they already have plans. Now you can say tell a prospective Knight when a First Degree will be held.

After both these meetings we will have an informal social. Our hope is to see many card games, Bruce and I hope for Pinochle, but poker would be fine as well. We also have a pool table, which seems to be more of a storage table, that we would like to see used.

The third month will be a true social meeting with many different themes that will include wives, family, and friends. We are still looking for someone to help our Council Director with this project. We have talked about Bar-be-cues in the summer in the new picnic area, and a father–child night.

We are very excited about the coming year but it will take you, Brother Knights, to make them a success. To assist you, I have enclosed a calendar of meeting for the coming year. I hope to see you soon.

God Bless,

Charles R. Tate
