St. Paul’s Steering Committee

Meeting Minutes 3/10/2003

Rusty Boicourt began the meeting at 5:35 PM.

The usual Tuesday meeting was held on Monday just before the start of the March 10th English Program Planning Workshop.  Bill Brown requested that the Steering Committee meet with him to informally discuss any issues and to get to know the members.  Dinner was provided by Cecelia Ashinhurst, Rusty Boicourt, and Tammi Crnich.

Much of the discussion was lead by Mr. Brown and centered on the earlier interviews with the Fundraising Committees.  Three candidates were interviewed:  CCS of San Francisco, CA; Cunneen of Hamden, CT; Kirbey-Smith of Quarryville, PA.  Immediately after the interviews, the interview board narrowed the candidates to CCS and Kirbey-Smith.  Though their presentation was good, it was decided that Cunneen was not suited for our project.  Their approach was very “one-size-fits-all” and they did not impress upon us their ability to raise the necessary funds.  Also, the largest sum they have raised, $2.2M, is less than our preliminary budget of $3.5M.  Cunneen appears to be more suited for stewardship campaigns and not for capital campaigns.  The interview board came up with a list of questions to present to the candidates for their response.  The Steering Committee, and Fr. Jerry, will make a decision based upon their responses.

Other topics discussed included the progress of the various committees and questions from some of the committees brought forward by the Committee liaisons.

Tom Sweet joined the Steering Committee and has agreed to lead the Communications area.  Tom has been very much involved with the process since April, 2002 and we are very pleased to have him and will benefit from his talents.

The Committee adjourned at 6:45 PM in order to prepare for the evening’s workshop.
